German Haribo Salino Gums with Ammonium Chloride - 1 x 200 g

I love German licorice!

I know salty licorice isn't for anyone (although it could be!). But when my husband visited Denmark for two months and brought this awful stuff back it grew on me. And grew. And grew. Now it's my favorite all-time candy after chocolate. And when one wonders why the Danes are so gorgeous slender I think this may be part of the answer! This is their idea of sweets. When I ask folks from there to bring it to me they're amazed. Only Danes (and the Dutch) like this stuff. Us foreigners hate it. Not I (anymore). It's worth acquiring a taste for it - much better on the waistline and so satisfying.

After you understand why ammonium chloride is a flavor profile for these, you will better appreciate them.

These get a lot of hate but, unless you're on a salmiak bender, these are quite good! I find Piratos intensely salty. My favorite licorice is Jelly Belly Scottie dogs, but I do enjoy a salty licorice, especially Gustaf's Licorice Farm. Salino are in that cluster of innofensively salty licorice; not salty enough to satisfy the salmiak-lovers, and not sweet enough for sweet-tooths. I enjoy them, but they are thoroughly middle-ground in the sweet/salt spectrum. They are probably just right for some.

I ordered the Salinos because they are my all time favourite but I cannot get them elswhere in the US. The item arrived a month earlier than expected and was fresh! Love it!!!!Update 03/29/21: The package I received was "Veggie" (vegetarian) not the one on the picture shown.I looked up Haribo Germany and they do not make the "old" version anymore.Nevertheless I could not taste any difference.

I was very disappointed in the product. I was looking forward to the distinctive rich flavor of European licorice and this product was just blah - hardly any taste at all. It was like a gummy bear with no flavor.

These Salinos taste just like the big ones I used to buy as a kid at the bakery in Germany , so glad I found them here on amazon. They are quite sweet, but not overly syrupy like American candy, firm but chewy, and I think vegan as well.

I like the taste, but the licorice sticks to my teeth. I wish it was harder so I could just suck on it without it getting stick to my back teeth. I won’t be buying this kind again because it sticks to my teeth.
