Q: Using for patches and a thinning existing lawn. Does it require topsoil?

Hi, I use top soil for two reasons, the first is it helps the seed to germinate quicker as the soil keeps the seeds warm and stops any chance of frost killing the seed in early Spring. The second is with me feeding the birds in the back garden they also tend to go on the front lawn, so I use the top soil to hide the seed from the birds. I got great results last year with this seed as I used it on four bald patches, that had been caused by me removing moss out of the lawn. I hope that helps you. :-)

Q: Please tell me what species seed in mixture, particularly fescues, not keen on ryegrass.
