A great guide book for new food entrepreneurs!
This is a good solid book and wonderfully written ... it flows and speaks directly and eloquently to someone just starting out; and it also covers a lot of what it takes to be an entrepreneur regardless of your product. Being a book, and one written almost 10 years ago, the digital elements and resources are a bit out of date, but someone can easily take what's given and go from there to Google current information.

Good tool to help write a business plan
I will admit this is a good tool to help you write your business plan. Granted I think the food industry should stop dividing organic and non organic foods and make it so we can buy all organic food. I wish monsanto, gmos, high fructose corn syrup and the other evils would go away. However this book can be used as a window to help you understand what people lending you money are thinking.Not to mention the local economy and other factors. However I will say I like the added trade associations list this book includes. I think this book can help you to a degree establish yourself in this modern confusing food instry if you can understand the jargon.

A little out of date
Some of the stuff the author suggests is a little out of date, but it's a good read with a lot of information on the logistics and the marketing involved in creating a food product that you can sell from home. You still gotta do a lot of research on the legal requirements in your state because obviously he can't list it all here but he does provide the places to contact for each state in the end of the book. The book is well organized and its easy to find what you're looking for. He gives great ideas but the writing style is a bit slow. I mean it I know it ain't supposed to be entertaining, but damn. It took me like two months to read this book. It it very concise.

Must read!
This book is definitely a must read for anyone considering bringing their specialty food product to market. It was suggested to me by a veteran in the food industry who told me to read it and then call him back if I was still interested in moving forward. I have since abandoned my efforts to break into the food industry for a number of reasons which will all be discovered in the book. It was fascinating to read and really gives you an insight into every aspect of the food business.

Don't think, just buy this one
Within 4 hours of opening this book I was in an email dialogue with a specialty food distributor in Texas who wanted to set a meeting.I originally had a bunch of books in my shopping cart but decided to digest one at a time, starting with this one - great move by me.Don't think, just buy this one.

Current and thorough information
I was impressed by the amount of good, current information in this book. Many similar books are too generalized but this was very good.
