More details required to choose a Scrabble dictionary
I have the hard copy of "the" Collins Scrabble Dictionary. The descriptions of all of these dictionaries in the Amazon listings are wholly inadequate to explain the many versions offered. This one only goes up to 9 letter words vs. 12 in the hard cover which also separates the 2 and 3 letter words so they are easier to find. This one is also a smaller book with smaller type. These are two very different books, which is impossible to know from the listings.

Great for finding the definitions for all those obscure scrabble words.
Great resource for word definitions. Has all the different word inflections on on separate line.

Compact, Easy To Use and Fun for All
This compact Collins Scrabble Dictionary is a handy good-value word bible for all Scrabble lovers, both casual and hardcore. It contains all words up to 9 letters in length and fully replicates the official wordlist used in Scrabble tournaments (they do exist, they're great fun and most are open to everyone - see the ABSP website to learn more!) in the UK and international tournaments, including the World Championships. It's also used in the Scrabble app (not Words With Friends unfortunately). It is published by Collins, contains words inspired by other sources/publishers and also embraces the North American wordlist. It's easy to pick up, read and enjoy obscure findings, from Shakespearian and archaic terms to modern day internet favourites and wonderful words from international English.Although "living room players" may prefer to opt to their own dictionary, it's best to use this one as it's official and allows for a more fun and interesting game, and also makes way for new words which are being used in everyday life as well as old favourites. Language is evolving.Updated in 2015 (dictionaries get updated roughly every 4 years), you can surprise your opponents with some of the 4,000 + new words like HASHTAG, HANGRY, ZOWEE and RIDIC, which can of course be extended to RIDICULOUS. Words longer in 9-letters are voided so you don't have to worry about those, just looks out for possible extensions that hit the triple word squares. If you want the full word list you can buy a copy of Official Scrabble Words (a pure wordlist with no definitions) or Ultimate Scrabble Dictionary and Wordlist. Not only does it solve Scrabble squabbles wherever and whenever you play, it's also good for word learning and finding out what all the words mean. The unique thing about this dictionary is that all the definitions are very short but succinct and precise, so you don't have to waste time reading super-specific, exhausting and lengthy sentences. This makes the book highly accessible and easy to carry and understand. Here's an A - Z of some of my favourite words:ADENOID - of or relating to the gland.BARRIOS - Spanish-speaking corners in a town or city, especially in th US.CYMATIUM - top moulding of a classical cornice or entablature.DROSERA - insectivorous plant.ENTETE - obsessed.FUGUE - type of musical composition.GLUMPISH - glumpy.HEBDOMAD - number seven or a group of seven.IVRESSEN - drunkenness.JAROOL - Indian tree.KHEDA - enclosure used to capture wild elephants.LAZARET - small locker at the stern of a boat.MAWBOUND - (of cattle) constipated.NEUTRINO - elementary particle with no mass or electrical charge.OLIBANUM - frankincense.PHOEBE - greyish-brown North American flycatcher.QUAALUDE - methaqualine.RETIARII - gladiators armed with a net or trident.SHAKUDO - Japanese coin.TERCIOS - regiment of Spanish and Italian infancy.URBEX - short for urban exploration.VIRETOT - as in on the viretot - in a rush.WANDEROO - macaque monkey.XANTHAM - acacia gum.YIDAKI - long wooden musical instrument.ZELATRIX - nun who monitors the behaviour of younger nuns.

Perfect, and while the plotline isn't great
Perfect, and while the plotline isn't great, it does come in a handy alphabetical format ;) Only reason it didn't get 5 stars is because apparently it doesn't contain literally ALL the words allowed in scrabble. For the somewhat casual player like myself, who has a partner who says 'no such word!' and 'that's not allowed!' purely based on whether she has heard of it (she is great in almost all other areas though, I promise :D ), it's extremely handy and more than good enough for my needs.

The content of the dictionary is great and a must for all scrabble players
The content of the dictionary is great and a must for all scrabble players. Unfortunately the book itself is poor in quality! This is our second in 2 years and first the cover sheds and then the pages one by one become dislodged. Hence only 2 stars!!

Indispensible
I like the fact that the - shall I say - less common words...have a brief 'definition' next to them. In this, my paperback copy, if there was anything I could change, it would be to make the print slightly bigger. But that of course would make the book thicker or bigger, and therefore slightly more bulky {however, in my opinion, that would be something I'd happily accept}.

Definitions of each word are given which is good for one's knowledge
Only caveat is that there is not a separate section for two-letter words, This is a serious flaw in my view as you often need to get to those quickly. Definitions of each word are given which is good for one's knowledge. All types of English are included which widens the scope too ( SCottish words being particularly useful!)
