Amazing flute!
I bought this flute after being taught the basics by my friend on his 3-piece wooden flute, which I found was quite hard to play. I ordered this one so that I could teach myself at home without having to buy a really expensive flute. The flute arrived 2 days after ordering it so delivery was quick and the flute was in perfect condition on arrival. When I tried playing the flute I found that it was much easier to play than my friends wooden one and still had a great sound. I'm very please with this product and would recommend it to anyone who wants an affordable beginners flute!

Good instrument for beginners
Nice low D flute for beginners (such as myself). Perhaps a bit expensive, considering that it's plastic, after all (that's why it gets 4 stars out of 5). Delivered on time and in perfect conditions.

Good plastic quality for learning.
The flute arrive on time, it's a good cheap flute. It's made with plastic, good enough for learning, it's on tune. You just need how to cover all the holes in the flute, good sound.

Be aware of the hole distance!
A very affordable instrument. It's made from abs so will stand up to a lot of abuse if you're traveling with it. The spacing of the holes is the only disappointing thing. I take a large in a glove but was still struggling to cover the bottom holes using Piper's grip. Definitely not for small hands. Other than that, it's a bargain at under £40.

Happy flooterer....
It's a present for my son who does play the flute. Ge loved the tone and handling. He's happy.

Lovely tone for a plastic flute
I already play baroque flute so it wasn't too difficult to get used to this one. The holes are wider so you have to make sure you cover them completely to achieve the best tone. It makes a better sound than I expected, My fingers are quite short so I find it easier to use my RH little finger on the lowest hole although my flute duo partner had no problem reaching as she has longer fingers. A good flute overall.

Pros and Cons
Purchased this as a beginner to the transverse flute, though with a lot of woodwind experience. Like others with small hands, I found it REALLY difficult to cover the holes, and was forced to use my right little finger to close the low D hole, instead of the third finger. Even my son, who has much larger hands than me couldn't reach the low D hole with his third finger. This compromises flute balance and support. Having played a bit on a "classical" flute and developed embouchure and a degree of technique, I returned to the Dixon flute, and found the tuning and intonation to be way out. Because of its one-piece construction you can't adjust the tuning, and the intonation issue, although it may be mitigated by an experienced flutist, would really get in the way of a less experienced player trying to play in an ensemble. Having said that, it's a very easy instrument to get a nice tone from!I have mixed feelings about this flute: it's inexpensive, solid, and unlikely to be damaged if not treated carefully. It's good for someone learning to produce a sound on a transverse flute because you can get a nice sound easily. However the tendency to develop poor fingering technique because of the hole positions and the poor intonation will really limit it's usefulness for someone really wanting to take celtic flute playing seriously.

slightly different design (only one coloured band, at the top) otherwise great
easier than other whistles (flutes) to get to the higher octaves.don't sit on it... it's quite light in construction.great sound.
