The Best Was Yet To Come…
one of the best movie made by Bob Fosse (all that jazz, cabaret..).. it’s abt a Playboy model Dorothy Stratten.. her life.. marriage n death… how she met a fame-crazed-small town pimp.. Paul Snider (memorable acting by Eric Roberts) which made her life miserable n ended in a tragic incident… i bought this gem just because of Eric Roberts’ acting… he’s so believable as Paul Snider.. so sleazy.. selfish.. n low self esteem person.. who would use n manipulate others just to make himself known by any famous individuals… how i wish Criterion Collection or Eureka would remaster this film n release it on bluray…detail about this DVD release.. it was released by Warner Bros archive collection .. it’s a DVD-R copy (the disc is purple or blue in colour n NOT silver… it’s a legit release.. same case if u buy a Sinister Cinema DVD release.. low priced as it’s a print on demand order..note for those who has trouble playing a DVD-R copy disc (where u experience the last few chapters kinda ‘stuck’ aka the dvd player not able to read the disc)… here’s my thought.. i experience this if my dvd player is a multi region player.. bt if i play the disc with my NON region 1 player (that plays ONLY region 3 & region 0 player)… the disc played seamlessly… i assume that a DVD-R is same as a DVD-9 disc.. where u hv a different ‘layer’ when the total playing time hits more than 80 minutes… 🤔… that ‘transition’ of ur player laser reader trying to read the ‘next layer’ that prevent it from playing smoothly…. where u hv to forward to the next chapter n sort of ‘rewind’ it slightly back to the point where ur player can’t read… a multi region player might hv difficulties in reading region 0 disc aka DVD-R aka DVD-9…. i might be wrong.. may not be to all brands.. bt mine was a Philips.. while my region 3 & region 0 is a Sony… 😅

An Intensely Disturbing Film - From An Intensely Disturbed Director
This was Bob Fosse's last film, finished a very short time before his death. His obsession with his own mortality, which manifested much of his later work, was poured into this remarkably constructed film. Fosse dedicated the movie to one of his few truly dear friends, Paddy Chayefsky, who had died only a few months before filming began. Chayefsky's passing shook Fosse deeply and it is clear from this film that he knew he himself was living on borrowed time. Death overshadows every frame of this film. The performances, the scene construction, the editing and well...just everything, clearly shout Bob Fosse with far more intimacy than any other of his films. Without the normal razzle-dazzle of his remarkable dance numbers to fall back on, Fosse instead choreographed his take on the life of Dorothy Stratten with the same kind of minute detail as her deranged husband choreographed her death. The acting is superb, especially from Eric Roberts, whose performance as Stratten's husband, Paul Snider, is one of the creepiest ever put on film. Since the audience (most of them, anyway) know the eventual outcome of the movie, the build-up to the horrific ending is almost unbearable. The film has a "mockumentary" style with actors being interviewed by the camera as if they were the real people. This style was unique (but not unheard of) when the film was made, but completely common today. As of this writing, the film is from the Warner Archive vaults and is only available on DVD. There is no additional material, just the film. I hope someday there is another, more comprehensive release because it would be interesting to hear from Fosse himself and those who worked with him about what was happening to him and the production crew as they worked through this very dark story.Save this film for a good day, because as brilliant as it is, it is a complete downer.

Such a sad story for such a beautiful talent that was cut too short. Great quality, worth the price

Brilliant Bob Fosse!
FYI, the real disappointment with this DVD is that it was ripe for amazing Special Features and there are NONE! Fantastic film, surreal true life story...and Warner Brothers really dropped by the ball by not having any special features. How difficult could it have been to have one of the stars do a commentary track?? Surely someone could have coughed up a 15 minute documentary featurette on Dorothy Stratton. Not even an Original Trailer!Okay, now that I got that off my chest...let's talk about the movie itself. Bob Fosse, master of theatricality, did an amazing job as Writer/Director...expertly presenting the tragic life and death story of Playboy Playmate Dorothy Stratton. Picture perfect casting throughout...even in smaller roles played by Stuart Damon and Carroll Baker. Look for Keenan Ivory Williams in a bit part as a comic.Great movie, seriously overlooked by the studio in this DVD presentation.

I remember when this happened, my husband did not - so we watched Star 80. Eric Robert’s did a great job of portraying Playboy Playmate Dorothy Stratten’s creepy husband Paul Snider. Dorothy Stratten had her whole life ahead of her. She left her controlling husband, her career was taking off and she found love. Paul wouldn’t let that continue.

Excelente biopic

Worth a watch
I have listened to a podcast about Dorothy Stratten and wanted to give this a watch. The film was quite hard to get hold of, so it was great this seller had it. Good quality dvd and delivery wasn’t too long, also not way overpriced. I thought Eric Roberts’s and Mariel Hemingway were really well cast and it bought Peter Bogdanovich book and podcast to life somewhat. Pleased with purchase. Thank you.
